Rangers midfielder Aaron Ramsey might have played his final game for the club, according to journalist Pete O'Rourke.

The £4.5m-rated midfielder made the loan switch to Ibrox in January, but injuries and a lack of form restricted him to just nine starts.

What's the latest news involving Ramsey?

While there was a great deal of excitement when it was announced the 72-cap international would be signing for Rangers in deadline day, his spell in Scotland ultimately proved underwhelming.

Overall, he was on the pitch for 632 minutes, in which he scored twice and assisted twice, but he fluffed his big moment in the Europa League final.

Having been introduced by Giovanni van Bronckhorst late in extra-time, Ramsey was the only player to miss in the penalty shoot-out, which eventually handed Eintracht Frankfurt the trophy.

Ramsey did get his hands on silverware less than three days later as Rangers beat Hearts 2-0 to win the Scottish Cup, but the ex-Arsenal midfielder was left on the bench by the Dutchman.

Following the game at Hampden Park, the 31-year-old took to Instagram and posted what appeared to be a farewell message to the Ibrox faithful, who he thanked for their 'overwhelming support'.

What did O'Rourke say about Ramsey?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "I'm sure Aaron Ramsey looked like he enjoyed his time at Rangers.

"But a deal would have to be subsidised because of his wages at Juventus if Rangers were to bring him back. As it stands right now, it looks like he might have played his last game for the club."

What went wrong for Ramsey?

It's pretty much been a similar story to the last three years for the Welshman, who's inability to keep himself fit has overshadowed his time in Glasgow.

The odd moment of brilliance aside, he contributed extremely little for Rangers, highlighted by the fact he was massively underused in the Europa League, which quickly became their priority after his arrival.

He started just once in the competition, the second leg quarter final tie against Braga, and even then he lasted 80 minutes. His only other outings in Europe were brief substitute appearances against Borussia Dortmund and then in the final.

Overall, he was either not involved or an unused substitute on 15 occasions, which is more than games he played (13), underlining exactly where things went wrong for Ramsey.
