Despite losing his last two fights to Tyson Fury, Deontay Wilder has been honoured in his hometown with a statue and it’s safe to say that he is impressed. The footage on Twitter shows him caressing the statue as the paparazzi took photos of the star as he looked amazed at what his community had done for him.It comes as no surprise that he had been recognised for his boxing greatness seeing as the man used to hold the WBC title and for years was hailed as one of the best boxers of his generation.Known as the pride of Tuscaloosa, his city has done all they can for the boxer to feel appreciated and this statue is just a token of their gratitude. The statue mirrors his nickname the Bronze Bomber as it is made from that exact material, which is ironic. Either way, Wilder was astounded by the statue and how much it reminded him of himself. In an interview with TMZ, he said: "For the first time in my life, I'm at a loss for words. This is generational wealth. This is black excellence. This is greatness."

To Wilder’s surprise, the statue is exactly the same height as the American boxer, but instead, it weighs almost four times what Wilder weights, 830 pounds.

Although it was unveiled on Wednesday, this date had been delayed by a couple of years.

Wilder had told the local artist Caleb O’Connor he wanted to reveal the statue after he’d unified the heavyweight titles.

It was only recently when Wilder let O’Connor know that he was willing to put the piece on public display, hence the recent buzz around the statue.

It often happens when a statue of a celebrity doesn’t look like who it is meant to be, but it was nice to see that Wilder received a welcoming that he was more than happy with, as seen in the Twitter footage.
