Celtic are likely to be in the process of trying to extend Ange Postecoglou's contract, according to journalist Pete O'Rourke.

The Australian led the Hoops to two trophies in his first season, but his deal in Scotland expires next month.

What's the latest news involving Postecoglou?

Despite enjoying a fine first campaign in Glasgow, there's currently some doubts over Postecoglou's long-term future at the club.

When he arrived from Japanese football last summer, he only penned a 12-month rolling contract, meaning he'll be without a job unless his deal is renewed before the end of May.

But having exceeded all expectations, Celtic will surely want to offer him fresh terms to ensure he stays at the club for years to come.

Not only did Postecoglou win both the Scottish Premiership and League Cup, but their title victory put them back into the Champions League, which will give them a significant financial boost heading into the summer window.

And following his hugely successful first 12 months in the job, O'Rourke reckons that talks over a new contract might already be underway.

What did O'Rourke say about Postecoglou?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "Celtic are hoping to build on this season and hopefully have Postecoglou around for quite a few years, so I'm sure talks will be ongoing right now to secure the Australian on a long-term contract and reward him for the success he's had so far."

Has Postecoglou deserved a new contract?

Absolutely. You'd have to search far and wide to find a Celtic supporter who doesn't want the Aussie to be the man to take the club forward.

Not only has he improved the team on the pitch, especially following the debacle of last season, but he's completely galvanised the club and struck up a special bond with the fan base.

Winning two trophies has obviously helped Postecoglou's cause, especially the way Celtic pipped their Old Firm rivals to the Scottish Premiership, but the club finally have an identity moving forward, which hasn't been the case in recent years.

Their fortunes in Europe, which saw the club knocked out of three continental competitions, were the obvious low points, but there's every reason to believe that if Postecoglou's record in the transfer market continues, Celtic can compete in the Champions League next season and at least secure post-Christmas European football.
