EA’s popular life simulator Sims 4 has received a substantial update that includes new pronoun options.
When the video game company and Sims developer Maxis announced plans to add pronouns to The Sims 4, the long-awaited feature was first teased back in January.
Now, players will be able to set their Sims’ pronouns across all platforms, including completely custom ones, taking gaming to another level.
However, prior to this update, The Sims 4’s gender and pronoun settings were similar to those of previous Sims games, with each Sim locked to a binary choice between he/she and him/her.
Simulators can now have custom pronouns or even give them they/them.
If you want to change your Sim’s pronouns, click the tab next to the plumbob that says ‘Hello, I’m…’.
Using the ‘Custom Pronouns’ drop-down menu, you can choose between They/Them, She/Her, He/Him, and Custom Pronouns, according to EA’s official website.
The customizable pronouns feature will initially only be available in English, however, the feature will be rolled out on a phased basis to all 18 languages eventually.
Although EA also cautions players that they are still working to improve the update, It warns that grammar problems may occur due to how pronouns are handled and how complex the game is.
The new update is solely handy in English, though the developers has plans to add the new pronoun preferences to more languages in the future.
The addition of the new pronoun option is a huge step forward towards making an already fairly progressive franchise even more accessible to everyone and will be a huge benefit to many players to let them be themselves in-game.
