Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag will look to bolster his Old Trafford squad by raiding Ajax during the upcoming transfer window as 'it makes sense', according to journalist Pete O'Rourke.

Ten Hag left the Eredivisie giants in order to take over as the Red Devils' new manager, but he could be making a quick return to Amsterdam as he looks to draft in reinforcements.

Which Ajax players has ten Hag been linked with?

Jurrien Timber is understood to be among the names at the top of ten Hag’s shortlist ahead of the transfer window reopening for business next month.

Timber's central defensive partner Lisandro Martinez has also been added to Manchester United's targets following a disappointing season which saw them finish 13 points adrift of the Champions League qualification spots.

Further up the pitch, ten Hag is seeking a speedy reunion with Antony, with The Sun revealing the Brazil international is being targeted for phase one of the Old Trafford rebuild and could set the Red Devils back up to £50million.

Despite enjoying huge success while at the Ajax helm, with him getting his hands on a host of trophies, it appears ten Hag has not made a head-start in his pursuit of Timber, Martinez and Antony.

That is because the Dutchman has insisted there are 'no agreements' in place to bring any of his former players with him to the red half of Manchester.

What has Pete O'Rourke said about the situation?

O'Rourke believes ten Hag will be looking to bolster his Manchester United squad with players he has worked with previously.

As a result, the journalist is expecting the Dutchman to return to familiar surroundings and raid Ajax.

O'Rourke told GIVEMESPORT: "I think it's a very conventional route to go back to your old club and sign players. We've seen it happen on so many occasions.

"Ten Hag will be looking for players that he can trust and that know how he works. That's why it makes sense for him to go back to Ajax."

Why would ten Hag want to sign players from Ajax?

Ten Hag led Ajax to another successful campaign as they finished two points clear of PSV Eindhoven to clinch the Eredivisie title.

He has also built up a strong bond with the likes of Martinez, Antony and Timber, who were selected by the 52-year-old 120, 79 and 74 times respectively during his reign in the Dutch capital.

With a host of current Manchester United stars out of contract at the end of next month, drafting in players he has worked with before may not be a bad starting point for ten Hag.
