Chelsea have been tipped to ‘make a lot of changes’ by journalist Dean Jones after the government finally approved the £4.25 billion Todd Boehly-led consortium takeover of the club.

The deal ends the 19-year reign of Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich, who put the west London outfit up for sale at the start of March, a week after his country’s invasion of Ukraine.

What is the latest news involving Chelsea?

Abramovich was sanctioned due to his connections with Vladimir Putin, and since then, Chelsea have been unable to sell or sign players or offer new contracts to their existing stars.

However, once the takeover is complete, those restrictions will be lifted, and it could spark several incomings and outings at Stamford Bridge.

First-choice centre-back Antonio Rudiger has already agreed a deal to join Real Madrid on a free transfer once his contract expires next month, while Andreas Christensen is set to follow suit as a switch to Barcelona looms.

Meanwhile, Marcos Alonso is also edging towards a move to the Camp Nou, while doubts remain over the futures of Jorginho and N’Golo Kante.

The midfield duo are out of contract in the summer of 2023 and have been linked with surprise moves away from the capital club as a result despite their importance to Tuchel’s setup.

What has Jones said about Chelsea?

With two departures already confirmed and potentially several more to follow, it could be an eventful transfer window for Chelsea.

And Jones believes the Blues are ‘going to really kick on’ with their summer dealings now the ownership issue has been clarified.

He told GiveMeSport: “I think that they're going to really kick on; they're going to look to make a lot of changes very quickly. They need to know who's actually leaving, get them gone, and then move forward with actually signing people.”

Who could Chelsea sign?

According to The Telegraph, Chelsea have drawn up a four-player shortlist to solve their conundrum in the heart of defence.

Sevilla’s Jules Kounde, who came close to joining the club around 12 months ago, is believed to top Tuchel’s wish list, closely followed by Josko Gvardiol of RB Leipzig.

And the highly-rated Pau Torres of Villarreal and Atletico Madrid’s Jose Gimenez make up Chelsea’s hitlist as they look to compensate for the departures of Rudiger and Christensen.

Only time will tell who Tuchel opts for, but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the German tactician bring in more than one fresh face at centre-back ahead of next term.
