Promoter Ben Shalom has confirmed that Claressa Shields and Savannah Marshall will finally fight each other in September. The two have signed terms which will see them face off in an undisputed middleweight world title clash, which was initially scheduled for July. The highly anticipated title bout was pushed back after Marshall underwent surgery on an arm injury, which caused friction in the Shields camp.Self-proclaimed boxing 'Gwoat' Shields had threatened to walk away from the fight after her opponent's "small operation" and accused her of faking an injury. She claimed Marshall was exaggerating in order to buy "extra time" and told the Brit to "stop lying to the fans" during a video interview with Sky Sports.Shields had initially taken to Twitter to question the legitimacy of Marshall's injury. She posted a video of the WBO middleweight champion taking part in The Cube Live Experience in Manchester, along with a loaded caption."Look at this! @Savmarshall1 which arm you had surgery on!? Please do tell ………. EXACTLY! Stfu! Not even an arm sleeve! Born a day not yesterday! Faking a damn injury! ‘see you in September! Same results! I’m gonna win!’ Hating a** bum."

Marshall hit back in a recent interview and stated Shields is fully aware of the nature of her injury and operation, as her team were told "about a month ago."

The Silent Assassin was injured after her fight against Femke Hermans in April, which she won via knockout to retain her WBO title in her hometown of Newcastle.

"I don’t know whether it’s just red-chested or [if] she’s just opened her inbox, I haven’t a clue with that girl," Marshall said of Shields' claims.
But despite the issues between the two fighters, both have put pen to paper to lock in their title match.

"Early September — both fighters are ready, both fighters are signed," Shalom told Sky Sports.

"I can't wait. It's taken a while.

"Claressa has finally got her match. It's the first time we're seeing a genuine rivalry in women's boxing, and that's a sign of the times."

The fight was initially booked to take place in Newcastle but Shalom revealed a venue change may now be in order due to the high amount of interest.

"The fight's got so big now that it needs an international venue. It will happen in the UK — all the venues want it."

A potential London booking could be on the cards but nothing has been finalised as of yet. As it stands, it will either take place in the capital of Newcastle.
