Amir Khan vs Floyd Mayweather: Retired British icon calls out boxing legend for exhibition bout

Amir Khan has confirmed that he’s interested in a potential exhibition match against Floyd Mayweather.

Just a few weeks ago, Amir Khan announced his retirement from professional boxing in the wake of his loss to Kell Brook. The defeat, which was the sixth of his pro career, wound up serving as the swansong for the 35-year-old after a decorated run that even saw him become a world champion.

Funnily enough, Khan has been pretty active in the media since hanging up his gloves, noting that he wouldn’t be opposed to going down the exhibition route if the right opportunity presented itself.

In the wake of the aforementioned Floyd Mayweather’s exhibition showdown with Don Moore, Khan made it clear that he hasn’t given up on a meeting with ‘Money’.

“We saw the event today, I think Floyd needs a real challenge,” Khan said.

“We should do it, 100 per cent guys, let’s make it happen. I’m calling him out. Either hit me up or hit my brother up.”

Previously, Khan had said the following about waiting on retiring as a professional after Mayweather insisted he wants to fight him.

“When I call it a day, I call it a day. I don’t not call it a day because someone else is taking control, like Floyd Mayweather or Manny Pacquiao say now we’ll fight you.

“[I was] waiting around and waiting around for them so I thought, nah man, I’ll do what’s best for me.”

Could it happen?

Of course, in the era of celebrity boxing, Floyd Mayweather vs Amir Khan is a genuine possibility.

Khan even said that Mayweather tried to persuade him against retiring in the hope they could collide, but even with this decision being made, there’s still an opening for it to go down.

It’s a fight many wanted to see when both were in their respective primes so this may be viewed as a half-hearted attempt to recreate it, but that really depends on whether or not they’d give their all or if they’d dance around for the entirety of the bout.

Either way, plenty of people would pay to see it.
