The Monegasque driver has certainly started this weekend in good form, with him topping both FP1 and FP2 on Friday and he’ll be hoping for more of the same come qualifying on Saturday afternoon.
He’ll know, though, that the job isn’t done until he sees the chequered flag on Sunday, especially after dominating in Spain to only see a power unit issue throw him out of the race and with the fact he’s never finished a Monaco Grand Prix before in mind as well.
Even so, he’ll be happy enough with the start he has made to the weekend and focus will be beginning to switch to the most important qualifying session of the year tomorrow, after FP3 earlier on in the day.
Behind Leclerc, as mentioned, Carlos Sainz was just 4 hundredths of a second off of the pace in what was a positive session for Ferrari, whilst Sergio Perez was again in the top three as he traded second in FP1 for third in FP2 around the streets of Monte-Carlo ahead of team-mate Max Verstappen.
Behind the usual suspects for the top four, Lando Norris recorded the fifth-fastest time in his McLaren as he continues to look strong.
Still recovering from tonsillitis, the young Briton is in fine form at the moment and getting the very best out of his MCL36 which, compared to Daniel Ricciardo – already under pressure after Zak Brown’s comments he’s not met expectations in the week – could not be more different as the Aussie slid into the wall at the swimming pool section.

In P6, George Russell in the Mercedes with him once again looking more at home than Lewis Hamilton in the car – though the W13 appears to be showing some of its old issues after a fine run in Spain – whilst Pierre Gasly was 7th fastest to make it two top tens in practice in Monaco, ahead of Fernando Alonso in the Alpine.
Finally, Sebastian Vettel was once again 9th fastest, as he was in FP1, whilst Yuki Tsunoda got the other AlphaTauri into the top 10.
Next up, FP3 and qualifying tomorrow.
