Southampton ‘are interested’ in signing Hull City attacker Keane Lewis-Potter as the transfer window fast approaches, according to The Sun journalist Tom Barclay.

The 21-year-old is believed to be on the radar of several Premier League clubs following an outstanding campaign in the Championship, although his current side are keen to retain his services.

What is the latest news involving Lewis-Potter?

According to the Daily Mail, West Ham United, Bournemouth, Brentford and Southampton have all ‘expressed interest’ in signing Lewis-Potter this summer.

And 90min have provided an update on the England Under-21 international’s situation, claiming that the Bees are ‘optimistic’ over securing his services as they are prepared to offer him regular first-team football.

However, Lewis-Potter is unlikely to come cheap. The youngster’s contract is set to expire in just over a year, although Hull have the option to extend his stay by a further 12 months.

That leaves the Tigers in a strong position around the negotiating table and owner Acun Ilicali has stated he will refuse to sell his prized asset even if a bid of £30 million arrives.

"Keane is like God’s gift to us," he said. "He has extreme potential. He is going to be one of the biggest stars of the future.

"Of course, we have big offers for him…but I reject all of these. Even if they offer £30m to me, I will not sell him because I think his presence is much more important than anything for this club at the moment.”

What has Barclay said about Lewis-Potter?

Barclay admitted that he is unsure about any other club’s stance over Lewis-Potter, he did reveal that the versatile ace is a player on the Saints’ radar.

He told GiveMeSport: “Southampton are interested. I don't know about the other clubs, although Brentford, I think they bid for him last January, so that wouldn't surprise me; none of those clubs would surprise me.”

Would Lewis-Potter be a good signing?

Lewis-Potter played a pivotal part in Hull claiming the League One title in 2020/21, registering 13 goals and six assists in 43 third-tier appearances for the Yorkshire outfit.

And he carried that form over into the Championship this time around, finding the back of the net on 12 occasions and setting up a further four strikes in 45 league outings.

Producing that sort of productivity in the Premier League will be a big ask for Lewis-Potter, but it seems as though several sides are willing to take a risk on the promising starlet.
