Gervonta Davis has the edge over Rolando Romero because he is a 'complete package' who can do everything better than his opponent, according to Mike Tyson's former coach Teddy Atlas.

The pair do battle at Barclays Center in New York tomorrow night at the 135lbs lightweight limit.

Romero, better known as 'Rolly', burst onto the boxing scene after a relatively short and unknown amateur career, racking up 12 knockouts in 14 victories with a ratio of 85 per cent.

But Atlas believes he may have bitten off more than he can chew as 'Tank' is not a man to be trifled with.

Speaking on his podcast, Atlas said: "I'm picking Tank Davis.

"I know that Romero is a good puncher, and I know that he is undefeated, supposedly.

"Tank has got to be the favourite.

"I'll say this; I always tell you what I really believe in and I'm not swayed by any whatever you want to call it, any likes or dislikes about a person or about this, or a preconceived idea.

Gervonta Davis takes on Rolando Romero on Saturday

"I go by what I believe, by what my eyes tell me, what my judgement tells me.

"He [Romero] was a good amateur, he's undefeated, he hasn't learned how to lose, and he's a good puncher.

"I do like Davis to win by knockout, and I'm going to tell you why. The main reason is Romero's a good puncher. Davis is a great puncher.

"Romero knows how to box. Davis doesn't get enough credit for how good a boxer he is and how versatile and well-rounded he is as a fighter. And he is a southpaw, that can be a problem too.

"But he can fight inside, he can fight outside, he can counter-punch, and he can go freaking get you. And he can go to the body as well as the head. This guy has become a really solid, all-round fighter.

"He made Teddy Atlas' pound-for-pound ESPN list. He didn't make it overnight, he didn't make it quick, he just made it recently with his last couple of performances. He's on the top ten.

"For me, he belongs there. For me, he's more than just what he was celebrated as before, just a good puncher - no. He is the complete package.

"But Romero can box, he's got abilities too and everything else, and if you had 140 amateur fights you had better know how to freaking box a little bit."
