However, Jurgen Klopp's men have come so far in the last four years that you could forgive them for feeling very confident about their chances against Real regardless of what happened in 2018.
We are, after all, talking about an era-defining team that has already amassed 92 Premier League points and winners' medals in the Carabao Cup and FA Cup over the course of this season alone.
So, while Klopp will no doubt be acutely aware of Real's extraordinary escapology skills against Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Manchester City, it's hard to believe that they'll be fearful of suffering the same fate.
No, it's far easier to picture the Reds sticking to their guns and not second-guessing themselves by taking to the Parisian pitch safe in the knowledge that they're the favourites to go all the way.

Liverpool's training shenanigans
And you certainly couldn't detect any fear in the Liverpool squad as they took to the newly-laid Stade de France pitch for an opening training session on Friday.
In fact, such was the joviality and laughter amongst the Reds side in clips that emerged from the session that you'd have no idea that they were bearing down on one of the biggest games of their lives.
Take, for example, Liverpool channelling their inner YouTubers by participating in the famously serious, formal, earnest and sincere training exercise that is... the crossbar challenge.

Naby Keita attempts the 'double crossbar'
Yes, that's right, the six-time Champions League winners were living their best life by trying to hit the woodwork, culminating in a brilliant moment where Naby Keita attempted the lesser-spotted double crossbar hit.
With Jordan Henderson having found the target just seconds earlier, the Liverpool midfielder had his teammates on tenterhooks as he came inches away from hitting the bar twice from the same kick.
Cue laughter and shenanigans from Klopp and the other Liverpool stars in the umpteen-millionth reminder that their team spirit is off the scale, so be sure to check out the footage down below:

Sadio Mane sent flying
However, the laughs didn't end there with Liverpool's relaxed training session apparently extending itself to an exercise in which players need to bump shoulders with each other while running.
At least, that's what looked to be happening in another popular clip on social media where poor Sadio Mane ended up on his backside having attempted to bump shoulders with Virgil van Dijk.
In an amusing fall that seemed to instil panic in Henderson for the briefest of seconds, Mane went flying into a tall and handsome Dutch centre-back that simply wasn't there. Take a look down below:

Regardless of what happens at the Stade de France on Saturday night, Liverpool can still hold their heads high safe in the knowledge that they've produced a season that will be remembered forever.
And they're clearly going to show that you don't have to be deadly serious all the time to produce such world-class performances and achievements. That's surely something we can all get behind.
