WWE has issued a rather worrying update on the injury status of Randy Orton during SmackDown last night.

On Friday Night SmackDown last week, Orton and Riddle (RK-Bro) dropped the Raw Tag Team Championship to SmackDown Tag Team Champions, The Usos.

As a result of winning the big match, The Usos became the first-ever Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions.

Since the match eight days ago, Orton hasn't been seen on WWE TV, with Riddle explaining that he's out dealing with a "severe" back injury.

And as can be seen above, at the beginning of SmackDown last week, WWE issued a rather worrying update on Randy's injury status.

WWE said that the 14-time WWE World Champion is meeting with neurosurgeons and orthopaedic spine surgeons to speak about his condition and determine the next steps.

The update was quite vague, but considering how serious it sounds, it doesn't seem like we'll be seeing Randy Orton on WWE TV anytime soon.

As of right now, it's unclear whether or not the injury that Orton is out with right now is part of a storyline or is legitimate.

Some have speculated that the most likely answer is that Orton is somewhat injury right now, but probably not to the extent that WWE is making out.

Orton recently signed a new deal with WWE for fewer dates, so this seems like a way to give fans a reason as to why he's off TV and not working Raw or SmackDown shows for a while.

Despite all this, reports state that Randy will be back in WWE by the end of July for a match with Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns at SummerSlam.

The match, per reports, will be sandwiched in between a Riddle v Reigns match at Money in the Bank on July 2, and a Drew McIntyre v Reigns match at Clash at the Castle on September 3.
