Micah Richards got mugged off by Karim Benzema before the Champions League final

Karim Benzema revealed that he had no idea who Micah Richards is ahead of Saturday’s Champions League final between Real Madrid and Liverpool.

Richards caused a stir earlier this season with eyebrow-raising comments about the world-class French striker.

Despite Benzema’s remarkable career, Richards said that it’s only this season that he’s been convinced by Madrid’s No. 9.

“Of late, in the last six months, he has convinced me that he is up there with Harry Kane and Robert Lewandowski.” Richards said. “Last six months.”

Needless to say, many football fans were shocked by these comments.

Benzema is widely regarded as one of the greatest strikers of his generation, after all.

Does Karim Benzema know who Micah Richards is?

But shortly before the Champions League final got underway, CBS Sports host Kate Abdo asked Thierry Henry and Jamie Carragher if they thought Benzema knew who Richards was.

Carragher said: “He hasn’t got a clue who [Richards] is. I’ll be pleased if he knows who I am!”

Thierry Henry agreed but said things might have changed after Richards’ comments.

Abdo then revealed that she had the answer and showed footage of reporter Guillem Balague interviewing Benzema.

Balague asked Real Madrid’s star striker: “Karim, do you know Micah Richards?”

Benzema said: “Who is he?”

Balague responded: “Former Manchester City player who used to doubt you…”

Benzema: “Did he?”

Balague said: “But he doesn’t doubt you anymore!”

Benzema then said: “Ah, has he? Send him my love!”

Oh, Micah!

Those comments well and truly came back to haunt the former England international, who is now one of the most popular football pundits on TV.
