Per Independent journalist Miguel Delaney, the goal was ruled out as it wasn't a deliberate deflection by Fabinho.

Speaking on BT Sport at half-time, Rio Ferdinand declared he was 'baffled' by the decision to rule out the goal.

He added: "If I'm a Real Madrid player, I'm going bananas in that changing room right now."
