Manchester United target Darwin Nunez could be heading to Old Trafford as he is '100 per cent' certain to secure a switch to the Premier League this summer, according to journalist Jacque Talbot.

The Red Devils are under new management, with Erik ten Hag moving into the dugout from Ajax, and Benfica hotshot Nunez is on his radar.

What's the latest news involving Nunez?

Although Nunez was denied a January move to West Ham United after the east Londoners had a £60million bid rejected, it seems he is destined to move to the English top flight and Old Trafford could be his destination.

It has been reported by The Athletic that Manchester United – along with domestic rivals Chelsea and French giants Paris Saint-Germain – are the frontrunners for the Uruguayan’s signature.

While Benfica will be keen to hold onto Nunez, it is understood that a bid of £51million could be enough to persuade his current employers into sanctioning his departure.

The interest should not come as a surprise as the striker found the back of the net 34 times during the 2021/22 campaign, while he was also the Portuguese top flight's leading marksman.

Nunez's impressive form has resulted in him taking his tally up to 68 goals over the course of his club career despite still being just 22 years old.

What has Jacque Talbot said about Nunez?

Talbot understands Manchester United are not alone when it comes to Premier League clubs eyeing a move for Nunez.

The journalist believes there is no doubt that the Benfica man will be swapping Portugal for England in the coming weeks.

Talbot told GIVEMESPORT: "I'm told United are just one of a few. Newcastle and Tottenham are also interested.

"I know it sounds ridiculous, but he would have been shown to Wolves. He is making a Premier League move this summer - that's 100 per cent."

Could Newcastle or Tottenham feasibly beat Man United to Nunez?

Newcastle are the richest club in world football, so there is no doubt that they have the financial willpower to overcome Manchester United in the race for Nunez's services.

That is thanks to the Saudi Arabia-based Public Investment Fund completing a £305million takeover of the Tyneside outfit last October.

Tottenham Hotspur, meanwhile, will go into the upcoming transfer window having agreed a capital increase of up to £150million from majority shareholder ENIC Sports, boosting their budget.

They also have the luxury of being able to offer Nunez Champions League football after finishing in the Premier League's top four, potentially making Spurs a more attractive proposition than Manchester United.
