Tottenham are looking into the possibility of signing Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni this summer, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Antonio Conte is keen to improve his squad ahead of the 2022/23 season, and Jones says Bastoni would be a "dream signing" for the north London club.

What is the latest news involving Bastoni?

If Tottenham are going to sign the 23-year-old in the upcoming transfer window, then it looks like they will have to spend quite a bit of money.

Alasdair Gold of football.london recently reported that Inter are expected to ask for more than £50m for their centre-back.

The above comes as no surprise, with Bastoni being such an important player for Simone Inzaghi's side during the 2021/22 campaign.

In Serie A, the Italian made 31 appearances and earned a WhoScored rating of 6.90.

What has Jones said about Bastoni to Tottenham?

Jones has told GIVEMESPORT that Tottenham see Bastoni as a dream signing and are looking into bringing him to Hotspur Way.

Speaking to GMS, the transfer insider said: "This is a guy that they see as an absolute dream signing. They're certainly looking into it; I know that much. £50m, it sounds a lot, but now they've got Champions League football and they know they're going to have extra investment.

"They also need to consider, and this is a big thing for Tottenham for next season, the fact that there is this five-sub rule. They know that this squad has to be so much deeper."

Why does Conte want Bastoni?

As per The Telegraph, Conte feels his Tottenham squad needs six additions this summer, including a centre-back.

With Ben Davies, a natural left-back, playing on the left of Conte's back three in the Premier League campaign that has just gone, the Italian will be desperate to sign a left-sided centre-back.

The left-footed Bastoni, who plays in that role at Inter and is a player who has worked under Conte before, is a logical target.

It has also been suggested that Tottenham's director of football Fabio Paratici is an admirer of the Italy international, so Spurs' interest is not a shock.

The question now is, can Conte lure him to north London? The Evening Standard's Dan Kilpatrick has reported that a deal is not dead, but Bastoni is reluctant to depart the San Siro, leaving Spurs with some convincing to do if they are to land their man this summer.
