Rangers defender Calvin Bassey is in "no rush to leave" the Ibrox giants this summer, according to Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge.

The £25m-rated right-back enjoyed an exceptional first season as a regular for the Gers, which has attracted the attention of the Premier League.

What's the latest news involving Bassey?

Having joined from Leicester's Under-23s just under two years ago, Bassey played only 703 minutes under Steven Gerrard in 2020-2021.

It was Gerrard's departure which saw the Nigeria international become a permanent fixture in the team, splitting his time between left-back and centre-back.

Bassey turned out 49 times in all competitions, with his form, particularly in Europe, alerting in the Premier League.

Arguably his finest display came in the Europa League final as Rangers were beaten on penalties by Eintracht Frankfurt, which led to him being described by ex-Gers striker Ally McCoist as 'phenomenal and a colossus.

As a result, Sky Sports believe that a number of English top-flight clubs are keen on his services this summer. Furthermore, The Times have stated that Aston Villa are ready to 'step up their pursuit' of the youngster in a bid to reunite him with Gerrard at Villa Park.

But Bridge doesn't believe that Bassey necessarily has to leave Ibrox this summer, with the versatile defender still relatively inexperienced in senior football.

What did Bridge say about Bassey?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "There's already cheeky articles from Celtic-based journalists in Scotland, saying 'Rangers should cash in on him now,' but I think that's them being cheeky.

"He's only 22 and is he in no rush to leave, so I think you'll get a lot of that over the next few weeks."

Could Bassey leave Rangers this summer?

Bassey still has two years remaining on his contract, which means they don't need to sell him this summer, although having missed out on a significant sum of money following their Europa League final defeat, they might consider cashing in on him when his stock is this high.

But according to the report from Sky Sports, it would take a bid in excess of more than £25m, which would be the record sale by a Scottish club.

The report states that Bassey is currently happy north of the border but would consider discussing a move to the Premier League, having failed to make an appearance for Leicester before he signed for Rangers, although the Scottish Cup winners are understandably desperate to keep him.
