Manchester United target Max Aarons would be an upgrade on Aaron Wan-Bissaka, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The 22-year-old could leave Norwich City following their relegation to the Championship, and the Red Devils are in the race for his signature.

What's the latest news involving Aarons?

According to the Telegraph, the right-back is 'set to be sold' when the transfer window reopens for business next month after the Canaries were relegated for the second time in three seasons.

Meanwhile, The Sun believe that United are 'leading the race' for Aarons' signature, although they face stiff competition from Premier League rivals Arsenal, while Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are also in the conversation.

The report states that Aarons, who has two years left on his Norwich contract, will cost the Old Trafford outfit around £20m, which is less than half what they paid Crystal Palace for Wan-Bissaka in 2019.

Aarons made 34 league appearances this season and has already chalked up 70 matches in the top-flight, chipping in with four assists.

What did Jones say about Aarons?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "He would be an upgrade on Wan-Bissaka, I'm not really in any doubt about that, but also United have to find a way to get rid of Wan-Bissaka if they don't see a way to build this team with him."

How did Wan-Bissaka and Aarons compare last season?

Despite Wan-Bissaka's struggles at United in recent months, which led to him losing his place in the side to Diogo Dalot, according to WhoScored, the ex-Crystal Palace ace has been significantly better than Aarons.

But Wan-Bissaka, given a rating of 6.91 for the season, contributed little in the attacking third. In his 20 Premier League appearances, he failed to score or assist, although his dribbles per 90 minutes (1.8) were considerably better than Aarons' dribbles per 90 (1).

The United right-back also outperformed Aarons in terms of defensive numbers. He averaged more tackles (2.5), interceptions (1.7) and blocks (0.7) than the Norwich ace (1.9, 0.8 and 0.6), while Wan-Bissaka was dribbled past just 0.3 times every time he was on the pitch, compared to Aarons' 0.5.
