Southampton are definitely ‘looking at’ Fiorentina goalkeeper Bartlomiej Dragowski ahead of a potential move, according to The Sun journalist Tom Barclay.

The Saints have been linked with a move for the 24-year-old in recent weeks as manager Ralph Hasenhuttl looks to secure some extra cover and competition between the sticks.

What is the latest news involving Dragowski?

According to The Telegraph, Southampton’s hierarchy have targeted Dragowski as they plot their goalkeeping reshuffle.

The report states that the Poland international could be available for around £10 million and that his current club won’t stand in his way after he slipped down the pecking order at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

Since arriving in Florence from boyhood club Jagiellonia back in 2016, Dragowski has leaked 125 goals in 86 appearances, keeping 20 clean sheets along the way.

However, after receiving a red card in the first Serie A game of 2021/22 and struggling with fitness problems, the 6 foot 3 ace started just seven league fixtures last season.

And with rival keeper Pietro Terracciano appearing to be firmly ahead in Vincenzo Italiano’s thinking, it appears as though Dragowski is set to seek pastures new.

What has Barclay said about Dragowski?

Southampton ended the Premier League season in poor form, finishing just three places and five points above the relegation zone.

And Barclay has confirmed that the south coast club have Dragowski on their radar and revealed that it’s a transfer that ‘could well happen’.

He told GiveMeSport: “The goalkeeper at Fiorentina, he’s definitely on the list. Not like it’s a done deal that some have suggested, but he’s one they’re looking at, definitely. And that could well happen.”

Do Southampton need Dragowski?

Former first-choice shot-stopper Fraser Forster is set to sign for Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of June.

The England international will be able to move clubs as a free agent, and BBC Sport claim that the 34-year-old has already undergone a medical and that the deal will be announced imminently.

Can you guess where Sadio Mane began his footballing career?

That will leave Alex McCarthy as Southampton’s only senior goalkeeper, with the future of 40-year-old Willy Caballero also up in the air.

Caballero only signed a six-month contract in January after initially arriving on a one-month deal in December, but even if he puts pen to paper on fresh terms, Hasenhuttl is likely to want further reinforcements going into next season.
