Tottenham Hotspur target Lautaro Martinez could ‘be coming into’ the club this summer, according to journalist Jacque Talbot.

The north London outfit have long admired the highly-rated 24-year-old and they could finally land the Inter striker over the coming months.

What is the latest news involving Martinez?

According to The Times, Tottenham agreed a £60 million fee with the Nerazzurri for Martinez last August only for them to renege on the proposed deal.

Inter were determined not to lose both on their star forwards in one window, and when Romelu Lukaku completed his switch to Chelsea, they ended negotiations with Spurs over Martinez.

The Argentina international then signed a new five-year contract in October, keeping him at San Siro until the summer of 2026.

Nevertheless, Inter’s extensive financial troubles have seen Martinez’s future be called into question once more, with The Times claiming last month that a new £70m asking price had been set.

It was stated at the time that Tottenham’s local rivals Arsenal were in the running for the South American’s signature, but after they missed out on a top-four finish, that may no longer be the case.

What has Talbot said about Martinez?

Tottenham pipped the Gunners to fourth place in the Premier League standings, securing a place in next season’s Champions League as a result.

And Spurs have since announced majority shareholder ENIC has made an investment of £150m into the club, with Talbot believing some of those funds could be spent on Martinez.

He told GiveMeSport: “I'm told Martinez would be coming into Spurs, and I think it's good because it's down to (Daniel) Levy wanting to appease (Antonio) Conte.

“And there was a little bit of concern, would he do it, is he going to invest loads of money? But then they've just got Champions League, and now they’ve just got £150 million extra investment.

“And they've got Son (Heung-Min), who's just won the Golden Boot with (Mohamed) Salah, and Harry Kane, who looks to be signing a new contract, then they’ve got (Dejan) Kulusevski, who will be staying as well.”

Would Martinez be a good signing?

Martinez, who has been described as a “machine” by reporter Roberto Rojas, has cemented his status amongst the world’s top strikers in recent years.

In 181 appearances for Inter, the immensely talented ace has racked up 74 goals and 24 assists, claiming the Scudetto and the Italian Cup during his time with the Serie A giants.

Adding Martinez to an already prolific forward line would surely take Antonio Conte’s charges to another level and could have devastating consequences for their competitors.
