West Ham United target Keane Lewis-Potter sees Jarrod Bowen as ‘an inspiration’, according to The Sun journalist Tom Barclay.

The duo played together briefly at Hull City before Bowen joined the Hammers back in January 2020, and Lewis-Potter could follow in his footsteps this summer.

What is the latest news involving Lewis-Potter?

According to the Daily Mail, Bournemouth, Brentford and Southampton have all ‘expressed interest’ in signing Lewis-Potter along with West Ham as the opening of the transfer window fast approaches.

However, despite the England Under-21 international only having a year left to run on his current contract, Hull remain in a strong position around the negotiating table as they have the option to extend his stay by a further 12 months.

And ambitious Tigers owner Acun Ilicali has stated he will refuse to sell his prized asset even if a bid of £30 million arrives.

“Keane is like God’s gift to us,” he said. “He has extreme potential. He is going to be one of the biggest stars of the future.

“Of course, we have big offers for him…but I reject all of these. Even if they offer £30m to me, I will not sell him because I think his presence is much more important than anything for this club at the moment.”

Nevertheless, 90min claim that the Brentford are ‘optimistic’ over securing Lewis-Potter’s services as they are prepared to offer him regular first-team football.

What has Barclay said about Lewis-Potter?

Barclay told GiveMeSport: “We spoke to Keane Lewis-Potter on Under-21 duty, and he talked about Jarrod Bowen and how much of an inspiration he was because he actually played with him briefly at Hull before he moved to West Ham, and it's quite an obvious link.

“If he were to move to West Ham, the comparisons would easily be drawn, just because of the route but also the fact that Lewis-Potter also cut his teeth in non-league, albeit on loan compared to Bowen’s story of playing for Hereford permanently and his rise up the leagues. But, I think there are similarities on that front.”

Would Lewis-Potter be a good signing?

David Moyes struggled to replace the output of loan star Jesse Lingard last term, with summer signing Nikola Vlasic registering just one goal and three assists in 36 appearances.

Meanwhile, Lewis-Potter found the back of the net on 12 occasions and set up a further four strikes in 44 Championship outings for a Hull side that finished down in 19th position.

The 21-year-old versatile attacker appears ready to make the step up in his career and may view that path that former teammate Bowen took as the most sensible option.
