Arsenal ‘love’ Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin and have ‘monitored’ the striker for a long time, according to Daily Star journalist Paul Brown.

The Gunners are known to be in the market for a new forward this summer and could move for the highly-rated 25-year-old over the coming months.

What is the latest news involving Calvert-Lewin?

A report from The Sun in March revealed that Everton were willing to cash in on Calvert-Lewin when the market reopens for business in order to ease their financial troubles.

It’s claimed that the development put Arsenal and West Ham United on ‘red alert’ despite the Hammers baulking at the England international’s £60 million price tag in January.

And Football Insider have since provided an update on Calvert-Lewin’s situation, claiming that Calvert-Lewin is ‘eager for a new challenge’ and is ‘likely to leave’ Goodison Park.

The outlet believe newly-rich Newcastle United and Arsenal are leading the race for the 6 foot 2 gem’s signature, although his preference is believed to be to join the north London outfit.

What has Brown said about Calvert-Lewin?

Brown has disclosed that Arsenal are big admirers of Calvert-Lewin before questioning how much Mikel Arteta’s charges would be ‘willing to pay’ for his services following an underwhelming campaign.

In an interview with GiveMeSport, he said: “At the moment, I know for a fact that Arsenal love Calvert-Lewin.

“They've monitored him for a long time, how much they'd be willing to pay is now open to question because I think he's probably hurt his own value by not being able to play much this season.”

Who else could Arsenal sign?

Arteta allowed former captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to join Barcelona in January on a free transfer following a disciplinary breach, while Alexandre Lacazette is set to become a free agent at the end of June.

Fortunately for Arsenal, Eddie Nketiah has finally agreed terms on a new five-year deal, but a new source of goal will surely remain at the top of their wish list.

And according to the Evening Standard, Arsenal will ‘step up their pursuit’ of Manchester City star Gabriel Jesus after Arteta identified him as his top forward transfer target.

The Spanish tactician will know Jesus’ qualities well from his time on Pep Guardiola’s backroom staff and may be confident of luring him to the Emirates Stadium.

That’s because City have just snapped up Erling Haaland, and with only 12 months remaining on his current contract, the Brazil international could be keen for a new challenge.
