Mohamed Salah wants to remain in the Premier League if he leaves Liverpool next summer.

A report in The Athletic claims that if he leaves Anfield as a free agent in 12 months' time, his "preference would be to stay in the Premier League rather than head overseas."

The Egyptian has just one year remaining on his current deal at Liverpool and has insisted he will still be at the club next season. However, he's still yet to agree on a new contract.

Unless he receives "a significantly improved contract offer", Salah will leave the club on a free after the 2022/23 campaign.

And if that happens, he wants to remain in England and is happy to sign for one of Liverpool's Premier League rivals.

Just imagine Salah signing for Manchester City on a free transfer. It would be one of the most sensational and controversial transfers in football history.

Sources close to Salah claim he was effectively offered a 15 per cent pay rise to sign a new contract - an offer they felt undervalued his current status.

Instead, the wages Salah is demanding would apparently make him the sixth-best-paid footballer in the world. The winger himself insists he wasn't asking for “crazy stuff”.

There's no doubting just how incredible Salah has been since his £43.9 million move from Roma in the summer of 2017. He's scored 156 goals in 254 games and has helped Liverpool win the FA Cup, Carabao Cup, Premier League, Champions League and Club World Cup in that time.

QUIZ: How much do you remember from Liverpool's 21/22 season?

He may be turning 30 soon but his injury record is almost impeccable and his incredible physique suggests he's be playing at the top level for many years to come.

Salah would be willing to sign a two-year contract if the terms were right.

While Liverpool understandably don't want to break their wage structure for one player, the thought of him signing for a Premier League rival must be unbearable.
