Manchester United have officially confirmed that Paul Pogba will leave the club for free this summer.Unsuccessful contract negotiations have brought an end to the Frenchman's six-year spell at the club after he returned to Old Trafford from Juventus back in the summer of 2016.Pogba joined the Italian outfit from United on a free back in 2012 and after a short period of time, he was recognised as one of the world's best young midfielders.

So the Red Devils saw fit to spend £94.5 million to bring him back to Manchester and it's safe to say that Pogba has not been worth anything close to that enormous fee.

There have been glimpses of his unquestionable quality at United over the past six years, however, he never delivered for the club on a consistent basis.

Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick all tried to find ways to get the best out of Pogba, but their efforts were ultimately in vain.

It's clear Pogba is a player who only thrives in a certain footballing environment, the French national team being another example, where he's been a shining star for many years now.

The fact every United manager who worked with Pogba failed to bring out the best version of him makes Sir Alex Ferguson's prediction way back in 2010 even more accurate.

According to former Lyon and Marseille goalkeeper Pascal Olmeta, the legendary manager was concerned that the midfielder would not make it, as he was a "dreamer".

Fergie's prediction for a 17-year-old Pogba

Speaking to RMC Sport about his meeting with Ferguson at United, Omleta said: "I was invited to Manchester United training by Sir Alex Ferguson. I went there with two children from my association. I had lunch with him and he told me about Paul Pogba, who was 17 at the time.

"He told me; 'You see this player, he will be extraordinary, full of talent. He will be at the top, but he's a dreamer and if nobody is there to show him his way, he'll never make it'.

"That was a few years ago and here we are today in that debate."

Ferguson was pretty much bang on the money, wasn't he?

After his struggles at United, Pogba is expected to return to Juventus, where he'll likely thrive once again.

In the years to come, Red Devils supporters may look back at Pogba's second spell at the club and think 'what if?'...
