Arsenal target Serge Gnabry ‘would be a great addition’ to Mikel Arteta’s side this summer, according to Daily Star journalist Paul Brown.

The 26-year-old has been linked with a shock return to the Emirates Stadium after so far being unable to agree terms on a new contract with current club Bayern Munich.

What is the latest news involving Gnabry?

Gnabry’s existing deal at the Allianz Arena is due to expire in the summer of 2023, and according to German newspaper Bild, negotiations have reached an impasse.

It’s claimed that the talented attacker doesn't plan to commit his future to the club until he's offered a suitable deal, but Bayern’s hierarchy are refusing to budge on their latest contract offer.

The reigning Bundesliga champions are believed to be willing to cash in on Gnabry, who has attracted interest from Spanish giants Real Madrid, yet coming back to north London remains an option.

SportBild’s head of football Christian Falk has revealed that Arsenal ‘are interested’ in the Germany international who ‘can imagine’ re-signing for the Gunners.

However, due to Arteta’s charges missing out on a place in next season’s Champions League, Falk claims the deal is ‘unrealistic this summer’ and that they may have to wait until Gnabry is a free agent to secure his signature.

What has Brown said about Gnabry?

Brown told GiveMeSport: “It would be a great addition, certainly, and obviously, he knows the club very well. But the talk in Germany seems to be that if that was to happen, it could only happen next season.

“And I think it probably only happens then if Arsenal do qualify for the Champions League because he's the sort of calibre of player who needs to be playing in it every year, really.

“And I think he'd be looking for Arsenal to prove that they can do that before he signed for them.”

Would Gnabry be a good signing?

Arsenal sold Gnabry, who Owen Hargreaves labelled "fabulous" last season, to Werder Bremen for just £5 million back in August 2016 after he made only 18 senior appearances for the capital club.

Since then, the versatile star has gone on to establish himself as one of football’s leading wingers, registering 64 goals and 40 assists in 171 appearances for Bayern, claiming four Bundesliga titles, one Champions League crown and two DFB-Pokals along the way.

Gnabry, now valued at £63m by Transfermarkt, would surely elevate Arsenal to new heights should he rejoin, and his arrival would be heralded as a significant coup by Arteta.
