Leeds United head coach Jesse Marsch will play a key role in the Whites' pursuit of Red Bull Salzburg ace Rasmus Kristensen thanks to working with the right-back prior to his move to Elland Road, according to journalist Pete O'Rourke.

Marsch has already shown that he is keen to reunite with his former charges by sealing a deal which will see Brenden Aaronson join next month, and it now seems Kristensen is the next name on his wishlist.

What's the latest news involving Kristensen?

According to The Athletic, Kristensen is being tracked by Leeds ahead of potentially heading to Austria with a bid.

The report suggests the Denmark international, who is currently on international duty, would cost the Whites in the region of £10million.

However, Marsch - who was appointed as Leeds' head coach in February and successfully steered the club to Premier League safety - is not Kristensen's only admirer as the reopening of the transfer window draws closer.

The right-back is also understood to be on the radar of Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund after an impressive season which saw him win the league and cup double with Salzburg.

Additionally, Kristensen has emerged as a top target for Brentford, who are looking to bolster their options on either side of their defence.

What has Pete O'Rourke said about Kristensen?

O'Rourke believes Marsch's position in the Leeds dugout could be pivotal in the race for Kristensen's signature.

The journalist hints having the American at the helm could give the Yorkshire giants the upper-hand over Dortmund and Brentford.

O'Rourke told GIVEMESPORT: "It will definitely help them, I think, in their pursuit of Kristensen.

"Jesse Marsch has worked with him before and signed him when he was the head coach of RB Salzburg. You would think that would stand them in good stead."

How did Kristensen perform under Marsch?

Kristensen has been on Salzburg's books since 2019, the same summer that Marsch joined the Austrian side as their head coach.

The 24-year-old made 64 appearances under the current Leeds boss and also showed his attacking capabilities by chipping in with 15 goal contributions primarily from right-back.

Kristensen and Marsch enjoyed plenty of success together as they won the double in back-to-back campaigns.

With Luke Ayling potentially missing the start of next season after undergoing knee surgery and requiring up to four months to fully recover, a reunion between the pair could be the perfect outcome at Elland Road.
