Paul Pogba will depart Manchester United this summer, the club has confirmed.

The Frenchman's contract with the Red Devils will run out at the end of the month and he will not be extending his stay.

"I feel privileged to have played for this club. Many beautiful moments and memories but most importantly an unconditional support from the fans. Thank you Manchester United!" Pogba wrote on Instagram after the news was confirmed.

Pogba's spell at the club were tumultuous to say the least.

While he's capable of brilliance on his day, Pogba was unable to produce his best on a consistent basis.

Many United fans lost patience with him and he also managed to wind up Jose Mourinho, too.

Mourinho, manager at the club from 2016-2018, stripped Pogba of the United vice-captaincy in September 2018.

The Daily Mail claimed that Mourinho made the decision after Pogba told him of his desire to leave United for Barcelona.

Shortly after, cameras captured a clash between the two in training.

Pogba was in good spirits going into training as he shook hands with United staff.

At the time, it was unclear why Mourinho was so annoyed with Pogba. Andreas Pereira later revealed that a post by Pogba on Instagram was the cause.

Pogba had uploaded a video of him laughing at Old Trafford with Pereira and Luke Shaw just after the Red Devils were defeated by Derby County in the Carabao Cup.

Pogba had tried to upload the video earlier on in the evening.

Pereira confirmed there was a misunderstanding about the clip. He told Brazilian publication UOL: “It was in a cup game. Pogba posted the video before and there was me and left-back Luke Shaw laughing.

“We were winning the game 1-0 at the time of the video. Then we lost the game, and people said that Pogba posted later. But he posted before.

“The manager thought that Pogba had posted later. He asked him why that had happened. There was a mood about it. These things were out here in England. But I have nothing to do with it.”

Mourinho was sacked by the club a few months later. Should he have stayed, Pogba may have departed the club some time ago.
