Lionel Messi was at his brilliant best as Argentina were crowned Finalissima winners on Wednesday evening.

Messi was underwhelming in his first campaign at Paris Saint-Germain.

But he was in the mood in his side's 3-0 victory over Italy at Wembley Stadium.

Messi put the ball on a plate for Lautero Martinez to open the scoring after 28 minutes.

The 34-year-old picked up the ball roughly 25 yards out and was being closely marked by Giovanni Di Lorenzo.

But Messi went past his opponent with a superb turn before driving towards goal.

Messi then showed great balance and strength to hold off the Italy full-back, before putting the ball on a plate for Martinez. Watch it below...

Martinez scored the goal, but it was all about Messi.

That turn. That acceleration. That strength. That balance. That pass. It was all just brilliant from the Argentine maestro.

Argentina then doubled their lead late on in the first half through Angel Di Maria.

Martinez sent Di Maria through after some brilliant work and he the recently departed PSG man produced a wonderful dinked finish.

Paulo Dybala then rounded out the scoring in stoppage-time. Messi provided the assist again, although this time there was a slight bit of luck involved...

The final whistle went shortly after as Argentina were crowned the third winners of the Finalissima.

Messi will be 35 later this month.

A few days ago, he gave an emotional interview where he noted his first season at PSG had not gone as planned and promised to be better in the 22/23 campaign.

“Thinking about me, individually and what happened this year, I think about being able to reverse the situation, about not having the feeling of having changed clubs and that it didn’t go well for me.

"And as you said, I know that this year is going to be different, I’m already prepared for what’s to come, I know the club, I know the city, I’m a little more comfortable with the dressing room, with my teammates and I know it’s going to be different”.

Messi always performs for Argentina. Let's hope he manages to produce his best on a consistent basis for PSG next season.
