Atlanta Falcons cornerback A. J. Terrell had a brilliant reaction to seeing the team's new throwback helmet.

With a colour scheme of red and black, there is a lot that the Atlanta Falcons can do when it comes to their uniforms to make them stand out in this league, but there is one thing that has remained a constant for them since the late 1990s, barring the odd throwback game, has been a black helmet.

And when the league instigated a rule back in 2013 that insisted players had to wear the same helmet throughout the season, be that in games and in practice, that helmet was their one and only.

However, the league has since relaxed those rules, meaning that when a team puts on a throwback uniform, they are also allowed to do the same with their helmets, which put an end to the rather odd trend of seeing teams wearing old uniforms but with modern helmets, ala the Pittsburgh Steelers when they wore their ‘bumblebee uniforms’.

Red-y to make a comeback

With the league’s new rule now in place, it means the Falcons can really go back into their history and bring back their iconic red helmet that they started out with back in the 1960s, with the team announcing that they will be wearing it during their week 6 game against the San Francisco 49ers:

And rather than just keeping the sneak peeks to social media, A. J. Terrell, an Atlanta native who went to high school in the area, but was born just too late to see them be worn in person, got to get a real close look.

Couldn’t be happier

To say that he was pleased with what he saw would be something of an understatement, as he took the whole thing in, even going so far as putting it on and asking if he could take it home with him:

If this reaction is anything to go by now, then just imagine what it’s going to be like when he puts it on for real come week 6. And hopefully the Falcons fans will be feeling exactly the same when they see it in person as well.
