F1 Esports Women's Wildcard returns for 2022 season

F1 Esports Women's Wildcard

The Formula 1 Esports Women’s Wildcard has returned for 2022, giving female sim racers the chance to compete at the F1 Esports Series Pro Exhibition.

In its second instalment, the Women’s Wildcard will showcase some of the fastest women and girls and discover who has what it takes to master Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

Sim racers will record their fastest lap time around the famous Spanish Grand Prix circuit and the five with the best times will be invited to Silverstone for a special one-off race to determine who will progress to the Pro Exhibition.

F1 Esports has been wildly popular since it started in 2017 but the Women’s Wildcard is still a new addition to the competition.

Last month, McLaren hosted a Women’s Wildcard Experience Day and invited GiveMeSport Women down to the McLaren Technology Centre, alongside other motorsport content creators and influencers.

The Experience Day, hosted by Sky Sports presenter Natalie Pinkham, gave the media the opportunity to record their own lap times using the racing sims in the incredible McLaren Shadow Studio.

While it was not an official competition, the participants were able to experience real sim racing conditions and attempt to master the corners of Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

W Series, the all-female racing championship, has skyrocketed in popularity since its first season in 2019. The drivers have made waves on the real circuits, and now it’s time to boost the amount of women getting involved in virtual racing.

Last year, GiveMeSport Women spoke with Rebecca, the first ever winner of the F1 Esports Women’s Wildcard.

“I suppose in a way, young girls and other women have someone to look up to with me doing what I’m doing. I’m not denying it’s a big thing and to be part of it is something I’m proud of.”

Rebecca also admitted the world of Esports provided a huge sense of comfort for her during the UK’s first coronavirus-related lockdown in 2020.

“I don’t know what I would’ve done without it. If I didn’t have what I’ve got — somewhere to take yourself off and escape from the world — it would’ve be a lot harder than what it was.”

This year will see another female sim racer join Rebecca on the winners’ board and potentially become the first ever woman to win the Series Pro championship.

If you think you have what it takes to challenge for a shot at the F1 Esports Series Pro Exhibition, here’s how you can enter.

How do I enter the F1 Esports Women’s Wildcard?

Female sim racers looking to enter the Women’s Wildcard will need to record their best lap time on the F1 2021 official video game on either PC, PlayStation 4/5, or the Xbox consoles.

Participants must apply the following settings before racing:

  • Car type: F1 2021 (Any team)
  • Mode: Time Trial
  • Assists: None
  • Weather: Dry
  • Time of Day: Official
  • Track: Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, Spain

Racers must record their lap in full and screenshot their final lap time at the end of the session before sending it over to  support@f1esports.com. Entrants must also ensure they are registered in order to take part, which can be done by linking the relevant gaming account.
