Iga Świątek has won the 2022 French Open and equalled Venus Williams' record for the longest women's winning streak of this millennium.

The world number one continued her blistering form at Roland-Garros, where she beat 18-year-old Coco Gauff 6-1, 6-3 in the final.

Świątek dropped just one set throughout the entire tournament as she stormed to her sixth successive career title and second Grand Slam triumph on the French clay.

The 21-year-old needed just one hour and eight minutes to dominate once again, and she looked completely in control from the off.

Gauff looked to spark a comeback in the second set by going 2-0 up, but a series of errors — including three double faults — seemed to break her creative flow.

The American's French Open run has been a remarkable one. She did not drop a single set prior to her meeting with Świątek and she reached a tournament final for the first time in her career.

After her semi-final win over Italy's Martina Trevisan, Gauff admitted she would be happy no matter the result this weekend.

Road to the French Open final

Świątek has won her second French Open title in three years, having won her first Grand Slam at Roland-Garros in 2020. Her victory extends her devastating winning run to 35 matches and she is now just one away from smashing Williams' record.

Świątek arrived in Paris on an unbelievable streak, with consecutive titles from the Qatar Open, Indian Wells, Miami Open, Stuttgart Open, and the Italian Open already under her belt.

She faced Alison Riske in her first match of the tournament this year and immediately showcased her dominance with a 6-0, 6-2 win, before beating Danka Kovinić 6-3, 7-5.

Świątek's fourth round meeting with Qinwen Zheng was a tougher affair. She had to work across three sets before advancing into the quarter-final after the Chinese teenager took the first set 7-6. But a sensational 6-0, 6-2 comeback tallied yet another huge win for the Pole.

She then breezed past Jessica Pegula and Daria Kasatkina to reach her second French Open final.
