A video has gone viral on Twitter that shows whilst Wembley might be the home of football, when Lionel Messi's in town, it's nothing other than the little genius' favourite playground.

Earlier this week, we witnessed Argentina beat Italy 3-0 at Wembley Stadium to win the so called 'Finalissima'.

Messi put on an absolute masterclass in front of the sell out crowd, contributing two wonderful assists to his teammates Lautaro Martinez and Paulo Dybala.

After an unusually difficult season for the widely regarded GOAT, it's a welcome breath of fresh air to see him soaking up the plaudits once again.

And it was only fitting that he put on the fine display at Wembley, a place where the Argentine has experienced some of his most exquisite career moments.

When else has Messi played at Wembley?

May, 2011: Manchester United vs Barcelona (Champions League final)

Just as the United players had begun to get over their Champions League final defeat at the hands of Barcelona two years earlier, they would meet the Catalan giants once again, this time on English soil.

They were out for revenge and were still in the game at half-time with the scores level at 1-1, however once Barcelona's mesmeric talisman stepped on the gas, they were powerless to his brilliance.

In the 53rd minute, he let loose a lovely strike outside the box to restore Barcelona's lead in the tie.

He was then the dominant force in the match as the Spaniards ran out 3-1 winners.

By the time the final had concluded, Messi had a 92% pass accuracy, completed 10 dribbles, created four chances and had three shots on target during his first trip to Wembley - oh, and he obviously snatched the Man of the Match award.

Rio Ferdinand later said in his Autobiography, per PlanetFootball: “We never got to grips with Messi at all.

“He played from deep but if I went chasing him, I’d leave a hole for their midfielders and wingers to exploit. Should I stay or should I go? I never knew.”

October, 2018: Tottenham Hotspur vs Barcelona (Champions League group stage)

Spurs welcomed Barcelona to Wembley when it was their temporary home in the 2018/2019 season.

Messi scored twice and was integral in another goal as the Spanish outfit cruised to a 4-2 victory on the night.

Ferdinand, this time on pundit duties in the BT Sport studio, again marvelled at Messi's brilliance: “This guy – what he does on a football pitch is just ridiculous.

"It’s like he’s got a remote control in his hand and he assesses the situation and says ‘Yeah, right’, just plotting the location and ‘I’ll put the ball exactly where I want to put it on a sixpence.'”
