Aston Villa could be a good destination for Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain this summer, believes journalist Pete O'Rourke.

The Reds are believed to be open to offers for the Englishman, and O'Rourke thinks a move to Villa Park would make a lot of sense.

What is the latest news involving Oxlade-Chamberlain?

As per The Athletic, Liverpool are willing to sell Oxlade-Chamberlain, who is into the final year of his contract at Anfield.

The above is thought to have caught Villa and West Ham's attention, with the Daily Mirror reporting that the two Premier League clubs are on "red alert", and Football Insider saying that manager Steven Gerrard has now made him a priority target.

Liverpool's willingness to allow Oxlade-Chamberlain to leave this summer comes as no surprise given his contract situation. As well as that, the 28-year-old has only had a small role under Jurgen Klopp in recent seasons.

While he made 29 appearances in the 2021/22 campaign, only nine of those were starts in the Premier League.

What has O'Rourke said about Oxlade-Chamberlain to Villa?

For O'Rourke, Villa, as well as West Ham, could be a good option for Oxlade-Chamberlain, who revealed a few years back that he grew up idolising Steven Gerrard.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the journalist said: "I think they'd be two good landing spots for Oxlade-Chamberlain if he does end up leaving this summer, two ambitious clubs. I think Oxlade-Chamberlain could add a lot to both sides as an attacking midfielder."

Where would Oxlade-Chamberlain play at Villa?

It is a good question to consider, as Oxlade-Chamberlain, who joined Liverpool from Arsenal for £35m back in 2017, can play in central midfield and out wide.

The Villans have had a lot of problems with Leon Bailey, who spent a lot of time on the sidelines in the campaign that has just gone due to injury, while there has been talk about the likes of Trezeguet, Anwar El Ghazi and Bertrand Traore all leaving the club this transfer window.

Considering all of that, perhaps Oxlade-Chamberlain could arrive at Villa Park as a wide or attacking midfield option.

A lot could depend on what formation Gerrard uses. In his first season as Villa manager, the Liverpool legend used systems with and without natural wingers.

Wherever he plays, Villa would be getting, in the words of Oxlade-Chamberlain's team-mate Virgil van Dijk, a "quality player". His experience and versatility make him a useful asset to have, it is just a matter of keeping him fit.

All in all, perhaps this could be a move that benefits both Oxlade-Chamberlain and Villa.
