French Open finalist Jessica Pegula will compete for the women’s double championship this morning after defeating Madison Keys and Taylor Townsend in the semi-final.
If she is successful in the final, she will share the winning prize money, a total of £495,000, with her partner Coco Gauff.
This is a truly life-changing sum of money for any young athlete, but rather surprisingly, an unnecessary one for Jessica Pegula, who is set to inherit the wealth of her father Terry Pegula.
Terry Pegula currently sits at 434th in Forbes’ richest men list. The billionaire has earned his wealth from real estate, oil and sporting ventures – he is currently the owner of NFL team Buffalo Bills.
His daughter has enjoyed a successful career in tennis, earning around £3.4 million during her time competing at the top.
Just recently, she competed in the Madrid Open singles final, where she was defeated rather convincingly by Ons Jabeur. Despite this, however, she did manage to surpass her previous best ranking of 14th.
It is clear that Jessica is chasing glory rather than dollar signs, as she could be set to inherit £4.6 billion, that would set her atop the list of the world’s highest-paid sporting stars.
Let’s put that into perspective…
Pegula is not only set to inherit an absolute fortune, but she also has her own successful skincare business, Ready 24.
Jessica Pegula will surpass all three tennis greats, put together. She will be five times richer than their combined net worth. Insane!
It won’t be long before Pegula sees her bank balance surpass these sporting greats!
