Cody Rhodes is believed to have sustained a pretty serious injury ahead of WWE Hell in a Cell tonight.

On the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer has explained that Cody Rhodes is believed to have torn his pectoral muscle while training in the gym this week.

Cody did not wrestle at WWE's house show last night, as he was scheduled to, and the reason for that is down to the injury

Rhodes is set to wrestle at Hell in a Cell tonight against Seth Rollins, and as WWE is still promoting the match, it's likely that the match is still going ahead, despite Cody being hurt.

Here is what Meltzer had to say on the matter, explaining that while Cody may still wrestle tonight, the injury he's sustained is quite serious.

"Cody hurt himself weight training this week. The story going around backstage last night in Champaign, Illinois is that he tore his pec. I don’t know that 100% [if] that is the injury. That’s definitely the story going around. That’s what multiple wrestlers were saying last night, and Cody was there, so he probably told them."

The presumption everyone had was he’s working Hell in a Cell tonight and from there we’ll see. But a torn pec is, you know, that’s a pretty serious injury, if it is that.

The news has been corroborated by POST Wrestling, who also report that Rhodes has likely suffered a torn pec.

The news is not what WWE fans will have wanted to hear, as they've taken very well to Cody since his return to WWE in April.

Since being back at WrestleMania, Cody has been one of the top babyfaces in all of WWE, if not the top babyface, and has been presented as one of the company's top stars.
