Cristiano Ronaldo further extended his world record for the most international goals in the history of men's football on Sunday night. As the Manchester United superstar prepares for what must surely be his final World Cup, he reminded everyone that he means business with an excellent performance against Switzerland.Portugal helped themselves to a comfortable 4-0 win at the Estádio José Alvalade with Ronaldo scoring twice between strikes from William Carvalho and Joao Cancelo.

Ronaldo's mum watches him vs Switzerland

His UEFA Nations League brace represented his 116th and 117th goals for the senior Portugal side, which pulls him even further clear of the former record holder Ali Daei.

And while some might say that the match was merely a glorified friendly, try telling that to Ronaldo's mother, Maria Dolores dos Santos Aveiro, who was there to soak up the occasion.

Like any proud mum, Dolores has keenly watched her son's professional career rising through the ranks at Sporting Lisbon to playing at his pomp for Manchester United and Real Madrid.

We can only imagine the sense of joy that she experiences from watching her son establish himself as one of the greatest sportspeople of all time having come from such humble beginnings.

The pride of Ronaldo's mum

And despite her son now having played at the highest level for two decades, Dolores has clearly never become numb or indifferent to the sight of Cristiano doing what he does best.

Besides, you only have to look at the way she reacted to Ronaldo's goals against Switzerland to get a sense of the pride and delight she feels when watching him play the beautiful game.

When Ronaldo scored his first goal of the night from Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Jota's interplay, the televisions cameras quickly cut to the stands in order to capture Dolores' reaction.

Ronaldo's mum reacts to his goals

She could be seen raising her hands in the air, embracing the person next to her and even wiping her face as though there might have been a tear in her eye.

And it was the same story when Ronaldo notched his second of the match just minutes later with the broadcasters capturing Dolores wiping her eyes with a tissue.

Whether you're watching your son collect his 25-metre swimming badge or scoring twice for their country, the pride is clearly the same, so be sure to check out Dolores' emotional reaction below:

Just look at what it means.

The pride never gets old

A cynic might have imagined that Dolores wouldn't get so emotional to Ronaldo scoring when you consider he boasts over 800 goals and the latest transpired in the UEFA Nations League.

However, it just goes to show that the sight of your son playing and scoring at the highest level as a five-time Ballon d'Or winner never gets old no matter how many times you see it.

We can only imagine how many tears will be flowing from Dolores' eyes if Ronaldo can maintain his scoring streak for Portugal all the way to Qatar and get his hands on the most revered trophy of all...
