Azerbaijan GP Weekend Schedule: When does the race start?

The Formula 1 season heads to the shores of the Caspian Sea this weekend for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku.

It’s a race that has regularly thrown up drama and none more so than last year with Max Verstappen having a tyre blowout to cost him victory, before Lewis Hamilton botched a restart to fall to the rear of the field to allow Sergio Perez his first Red Bull win.

Quite the race, then, and we’ll be hoping for more excitement this weekend as we reach round eight of the 2022 world championship.

When does each session take place this weekend in Baku, then? We take a look now…

There are two practice sessions on Friday in Baku, with Azerbaijan three hours in front of the UK in terms of time.

FP1 takes place at 12pm UK time and lasts for an hour, whilst FP2 is scheduled for 3pm UK time, also for an hour.

Saturday sees the third and final practice session, before qualifying takes place later on in the afternoon.

FP3 will be held at 12pm UK time before qualifying takes place at 3pm UK time, meaning the schedule of Friday is copied exactly and that may allow teams to get some useful data between Friday and Saturday.

The Grand Prix gets underway at 12pm UK time, with 51 laps of the circuit scheduled.

It’s an earlier start time than a lot of European races, owing to the time difference, for UK fans but should still be no less entertaining than some of the Grands Prix we have had already this year.

Sergio Perez will be eager to get another race victory under his belt this weekend, then, whilst Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen will also want to return to the top step.
