Everton target Billy Gilmour is the sort of player that Frank Lampard needs at the club, according to Daily Star journalist Paul Brown.

The 20-year-old has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge in recent weeks and could be reunited with his former Chelsea manager at Goodison Park.

What is the latest news involving Gilmour?

Gilmour was handed his senior Chelsea debut by Lampard after rising through the ranks in west London but was sent out on loan to Norwich City throughout 2021/22.

However, the Scotland international was unable to prevent the Canaries from suffering an immediate relegation from the Premier League after starting just 21 top-flight fixtures.

And Gilmour could be on the move either temporarily or permanently once again when the market reopens for business later this month.

Transfer insider Dean Jones previously told GiveMeSport that Everton ‘will keep a close eye’ on the technically-gifted ace as a decision over his future edges ever closer.

What has Brown said about Gilmour?

Everton have also been linked to fellow Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher, yet Brown believes the links to Gilmour are ‘even more interesting’.

He told GiveMeSport: “Gilmour is even more interesting; his loan at Norwich did not go very well. He is exactly the sort of player, in many respects, he is exactly the sort of player Everton need, someone who can just sit in front of the back four, dictate play, pick a good pass and keep the ball moving."

“That is one profile of player that Everton do not have. Lampard gave him his chance, and he actually excelled. I think his first game was against Everton, and he played Liverpool, I remember as well in the cup and did really, really well in that game.

“He was my Man of the Match in that game. So, there's clearly talent there, and he can clearly do it, but is he ready to be the boss of a midfield for a club that big? That's the big question.”

Would Gilmour be a good signing?

Gilmour, who is valued at £10.8m by Transfermarkt, has been labelled as a “fabulous” player by pundit Graeme Souness previously, and it’s easy to understand why.

As per FBref, the diminutive ace made 1.21 key passes, 2.33 shot-creating actions and 4.51 progressive passes per 90 minutes last term, bettering Allan's tallies of 0.62, 1.32 and 4.36, respectively.

Bringing Gilmour to the blue half of Merseyside may allow Everton to gain more control of games, therefore, enabling Lampard to play his preferred style of play when in possession.
