It has now been confirmed that Paul Pogba is leaving Manchester United. But who are four midfielders that could replace him at Old Trafford?

Paul Pogba. A man who on his day is an absolute world-beater that is simply unplayable on the pitch. Other times - a ghost of a player whose questionable work ethic often lets him down. Unfortunately for United fans, they usually got the latter.

Pogba's second spell at United can't really be put down as a success. After rejoining for a whopping £89 million from Juventus back in 2016, United fans were simply ecstatic that they'd got their man back after losing him on a free. Fast forward six years, they've done the exact same thing again.

Pogba's time at United wasn't all a failure, but for the money they paid and the fact they allowed it to happen again, it's hard to really justify if much good came from Frenchman's signature.

But now under a new era with Erik ten Hag at the helm, the club must look forward and seek a replacement in his position - but who in world football is available?

With this, let's have a look at four midfielders that could replace Paul Pogba in this transfer window.

Frenkie de Jong

A name that is heavily linked to Manchester United, Barcelona's Frenkie de Jong.

The silky Dutch midfielder has worked under new boss Erik ten Hag before, during his time at Ajax, and he developed a fantastic relationship with him, meaning a move could be on the cards.

Not only this, but Barcelona are absolutely desperate to sell to relieve some of their financial woes which could certainly be eased through the sale of the Dutchman.

Frenkie de Jong would suit United to a tee. A player that likes to pick up the ball in pockets of space and drive forward is something they've been crying out for for years now, which Frenkie does excellently - so he could be the man to replace Pogba.

The only thing that could stunt this move is de Jong's desire to play Champions League football, which unfortunately the Red Devils did not manage to secure in their previous campaign. Can ten Hag be a deciding factor in this move going through?

Ryan Gravenberch

From one Dutchman to another, the second midfielder on our list is Ryan Gravenberch.

Once again, a player that ten Hag knows extremely well - working very closely with him this season. Gravenberch was an integral part of Ajax's Eredivisie winning side and does actually emulate the playing style of Paul Pogba.

The 6'2 powerhouse of a midfielder possesses fantastic ball control and dribbling for a big lad, combined with the fact he can also defend makes him a fantastic all-rounder that would surely fill the gap that Pogba's left in the United midfield.

The midfielder has been heavily linked to Bayern Munich however, with reports suggesting a move is close, but the deal could be potentially hijacked and with ten Hag on the side of United - perhaps they could make something happen.

Kalvin Phillips

A young English lad who oozes quality is Kalvin Phillips, who would be an ideal fit for Manchester United's midfield.

Phillips was injured for the majority of last season, but even with little time in the limelight, he has proven why many clubs are desperate to secure his signature.

The Yorkshireman is a fierce player with tenacity and drive but also possesses acute technical qualities that make him such a complete midfielder.

Leeds are desperate to hold on to him, but if the right offer came in - Phillips and Leeds United themselves could very well be tempted.

Reports state that many of the English clubs are in for his signature, so United best be prepared to battle it out to secure his services.

Christian Eriksen

A slightly more unusual choice, but one that would greatly benefit Manchester United. Could Christian Eriksen be brought in to replace Paul Pogba?

A man that was playing his football at Brentford for the second half of last season, Eriksen was a revelation for The Bees and proved that class is permanent and he still has the capabilities to perform at the highest level.

One of Eriksen's shining qualities is his fantastic ability at a dead ball situation, which as United's set pieces proved evidently last year is something they are practically begging for.

The Danish playmaker is now on a free and is looking for his next venture - so should United make a move?

Reports have stated that Erik ten Hag could be interested as it's a great way to secure a world-class name without denting the transfer budget. We'll see if anything unfolds.
