New Chelsea owner Tedd Boehly will ‘try to sign somebody else’ this summer as a ‘marquee signing’ even if they acquire Jules Kounde, according to Daily Star journalist Paul Brown.

Kounde has been heavily linked with a £55.8 million move to Stamford Bridge in recent weeks following the collapse of his proposed switch 12 months ago, yet further additions could follow his arrival.

What is the latest news involving Chelsea?

The bid to buy Chelsea from Boehly’s consortium has finally been approved by the UK government following lengthy negotiations, ending Roman Abramovich’s 19-year reign.

Since the Russian oligarch was sanctioned due to his country’s invasion of Ukraine, the Blues have been unable to sell or sign players or offer new contracts, but once the takeover is complete, those restrictions will be lifted.

And Sevilla centre-back Kounde could be one of the first names through the door at Chelsea after the capital club revived their interest in the 23-year-old.

The France international is reportedly being lined up as a replacement for the departing Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen, who are set to depart on free transfers.

What has Brown said about Chelsea?

Brown believes Boehly and co. will try to make a more exciting acquisition even if Kounde does land in west London in order to show they have serious intentions going forwards.

He told GiveMeSport: “I don't think it's the marquee signing that the owners will try and point to to say, ‘look, we're back, we're making a splash.’

“I think they'll try to sign somebody else, whether it's a forward or a midfielder; I think they are looking for, and need, a bigger name to try and make everyone sit up and say, ‘wow these guys mean business.’”

Who could Chelsea sign?

According to transfer expert and well-known reporter Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are monitoring the situation of Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling.

Thomas Tuchel’s charges have been joined by Real Madrid in the race for the 27-year-old, while other reports have credited both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur with an interest.

Sterling, who has bagged 131 goals and 95 assists in 339 appearances for the Cityzens, only has 12 months remaining on his existing contract and is expected to make a decision over his future imminently.

The four-time Premier League champion would add some additional firepower to Chelsea’s often underwhelming attack and give Boehly the star name he potentially craves.

Chelsea's potential starting XI next season?

In addition to Sterling, Chelsea have been mooted as one of the clubs that could move to sign superstar striker Robert Lewandowski, who recently confirmed that he wants to leave Bayern Munich.

Manager Thomas Tuchel is also said to be a huge admirer of West Ham midfielder Declan Rice, despite him being priced at upwards of £150m.

And alongside Kounde, Chelsea have been linked with fellow centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly, currently of Napoli.

So come the start of next season, Chelsea's starting XI could look something like the below...
