The Cleveland Browns have reportedly held discussions about the possibility of bringing back Odell Beckham Jr this offseason according to Armando Salguero.

Odell Beckham Jr is currently in the process of looking for a new team in the league, having been released by the Los Angeles Rams at the end of this last season, a season in which he also played for the Cleveland Browns.

Beckham is certainly not the same man that he was when he first burst onto the scene and flourished with the New York Giants, and the numbers are a pretty big indicator of that. Last year for instance he only had 44 receptions for 537 yards in the regular season, although it did still produce 5 touchdowns.

Contrast that to the start of his career where he had three straight seasons of over 1,000 receiving yards and had double-digit returns for touchdowns, whilst he also put up two more back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in 2018 with the Giants and 2019 with the Browns.

Problems on and off the field

One thing that has held him back has been injuries, as he suffered an ACL injury in week 7 of the 2020 season that cost him the rest of the year, before suffering the same injury again in this past year’s Super Bowl, a game in which he bagged the opening score.

On top of that, there have also been some off-field problems, most recently last year in Cleveland when his father posted a video on his Instagram complaining about how underutilised Beckham was within the system, which turned out to be the last straw as he was released in November, becoming a free agent which allowed him to join the Rams.

But despite how it all ended, it seems as though there might be a chance for him to come back.

What’s being said?

According to a report from Armando Salguero at Outkick.com, there are some within the Browns that want to see him back in Ohio for this season:

“The Cleveland Browns, the team which released Beckham before he signed with Los Angeles last season, have had internal discussions about bringing him back, per a source.”

What quite has led to this change of heart, if the report is indeed true, is as yet unknown. Perhaps his performances for the Rams last year showed that he’s worth the aggravation, either way it should be interesting to see how this develops moving forward and if Beckham will be coming back.
