Manchester United target Christian Eriksen wants to stay in London, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Red Devils are thought to be keen on signing the 30-year-old, who spent the second half of the 2021/22 season at Brentford, but Jones says his preference is to remain in the English capital.

What is the latest news involving Eriksen?

The Daily Mirror recently reported that United have joined the race to sign Eriksen this summer.

According to them, Erik ten Hag is looking for new midfielders and has identified the Dane as a target after being impressed by his displays at Brentford.

After signing a short-term deal with the Bees following the cardiac arrest he suffered at Euro 2020, Eriksen went on to score one goal and provide four assists in 11 Premier League games to help Thomas Frank's side remain in the top flight.

That sole strike, which came against Chelsea, was the 110th of his senior career, which is impressive for an attacking midfielder.

What has Jones said about Eriksen and United?

Jones has told GIVEMESPORT that United's big problem in their bid to sign Eriksen is that he wants to remain in London, which has given Brentford a chance of keeping him this summer.

Speaking to GMS, the transfer insider said: "I mean, we always said that Man United would come onto the agenda. The big problem with United is it's not in London and, from what I'm told, ideally, Eriksen wants to remain in London.

"So that's why Brentford have still got half a chance. Brentford have definitely not given up on the situation. They feel after giving him his opportunity to get back into English football and stuff, he might decide to stay."

Would Eriksen be a good signing for United?

Yes. On top of bringing a goal threat, Eriksen, of course, also adds creativity to the team that he is in.

To go with his 110 career goals, he has provided over 150 assists during his spells with Brentford, Inter Milan, Tottenham and Ajax.

His attacking stats in general are really good. He obviously missed some football but over the last year, Eriksen has ranked in the 99th percentile for shot-creating actions and the 93rd for progressive passes among midfielders (via FBref).

On a free transfer, he could be a very good piece of business for Ten Hag and United. However, if they are to land the Denmark international, it looks like they may have some convincing to do.
