Leeds United’s proposed deal for Red Bull Salzburg defender Rasmus Kristensen ‘will go through’, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The 24-year-old is widely expected to complete his £10 million move to Elland Road following the conclusion of the current international fixtures.

What is the latest news involving Kristensen?

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, a ‘full agreement’ is ‘set to be reached’ between Salzburg and Leeds for Kristensen.

Romano states that the right-back is ‘expected to join’ Jesse Marsch’s charges ‘in the coming days’ once the final agreements have been reached with a medical taking place after Denmark complete their Nations League games.

And The Athletic’s Phil Hay has provided an update on Kristensen’s situation, claiming that a deal for the Scandinavian could be wrapped up this week.

It’s claimed that Leeds are set to fend off competition from Borussia Dortmund for the attack-minded full-back’s signature having agreed a long-term contract with Kristensen.

What has Jones said about Kristensen?

Kristensen would be the second arrival from Marsch’s former club Salzburg this summer after Brenden Aaronson made the switch, and Jones believes it’s a clear sign Leeds’ hierarchy are backing their boss.

In an interview with GiveMeSport, Jones said: “I think this one will go through.

“I think that this is another mark that they're giving Jesse Marsch all the backing on the back of Brenden Aaronson, and getting him in will be a clear indication of Marsch being able to get players in the team that he likes and understands and can start the rebuild of this team. So, it's an exciting addition for them that one.”

Would Kristensen be a good signing?

Kristensen rose through the ranks at boyhood club FC Midtjylland, winning the Danish title before moving to Dutch giants Ajax in January 2018.

The 6 foot 2 ace was part of the side that claimed a domestic double while reaching the Champions League final in 2018/19, playing the full 90 minutes in the KNVB Beker cup final.

However, Kristensen was then snapped up by Salzburg that summer and has gone from strength to strength ever since.

In 107 appearances for the Red Bulls, he has registered 13 goals and 19 assists, claiming three domestic doubles in his three years with Austria football’s dominant force.

Kristensen made 64 of those outings under Marsch’s tutelage, and with both Luke Ayling and Stuart Dallas set to miss the start of next season through injury, his arrival at Leeds will be warmly welcomed.
