UFC star Khamzat Chimaev is shooting for a superfight after calling out Jorge Masvidal, Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz.

Sometimes in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, you need to be in control of your own destiny. While the promotion will push you to the moon if you give them a reason to do so, you also need to try your luck and drive the narrative ahead of an upcoming fight - even if you don’t have one booked yet.

Khamzat Chimaev is just 5-0 in the UFC and yet in that time, he’s already managed to make more of an impact than 90% of the hot prospects on the roster. He has the sort of attitude that Dana White loves and with five bonuses to his name already, it’s not hard to see why the masses find him so exciting.

His most recent success over Gilbert Burns proved to be more of a slog than many anticipated but even with that being the case, ‘Borz’ still overcame the Brazilian and vaulted himself into title contention at 170 pounds.

The next step is bound to be a big one for the Chechen sensation and if he has his way, it’s going to be against a pretty big name.

Will he get his wish?

The simple answer to this question is that nobody knows, but if Khamzat is serious about earning a title shot against Kamaru Usman, none of these bouts would be the right way to go.

Masvidal, Diaz and McGregor are all located in the ‘money fight’ genre and that’s not necessarily a bad place to be. At the same time, Chimaev has the potential to be one of the best of his generation at both welterweight and middleweight.

The welterweight strap is the one he’s closer to right now and the best way for him to secure a meeting with Usman would be for him to go through Colby Covington.

‘Chaos’ is a problem for just about everyone in that division and beating him would really validate Chimaev’s claim that he’s ready for the big time, even if there are still question marks.
