Speaking in an interview with BT Sport, Thiago has provided a detailed analysis on what went into his incredible 30-yard rocket that was recently declared, Champions League Goal of the Season.

Thiago endured an indifferent debut season with the Reds, in which he showed flashes of his brilliance but failed to find the level of consistency that many fans expected.

The 2021/2022 season, though, well that has been an entirely different story.

The new-look Thiago of 2021/2022

This past nine months, the Spaniard has endeared himself to the Anfield faithful, frequently putting on a masterclass in the art of orchestrating a football game for the home crowd.

His metronomic passing ability is a rare talent, which, when combined with his silky quick feet and cunning footballing brain makes him a truly unique player among European football.

However, under Jurgen Klopp, Thiago has also become a better rounded footballer.

Speaking after Liverpool's semi-final victory over Villarreal in the Champions League, Thiago praised Klopp for "teaching him running".

Of course, it's not necessarily running that is so effective in Klopp's set-up, what he actually means is pressing - an art which Thiago also now has down to a tee.

His tally of 117 successful pressures ranks sixth amongst the Liverpool squad, whilst the number of times he has successfully tackled an opponent (58) is higher than any of his teammates.

It's been a ridiculously impressive campaign, the crowning moment of which, was unquestionably that Porto goal.

The goal came in Liverpool's comfortable 2-0 home victory over the iconic Portuguese side and was recently announced as the official Champions League Goal of the Season.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with BT Sport, the Spaniard has dissected everything that went into making that fabulous strike what it turned out to be.

"Well, you start with positioning yourself. Looking at how the ball is coming, then the position of the other players and where they are.

"Then you're focussing on the ball. How is it spinning, how you have to balance your body to make sure the ball doesn't go high and off target.

"You just want to hit it hard because you know there is a great goalkeeper in front of you, so it's a case of milli-seconds that you have to think about it, and then comes the action."

Wow, that's one of those strikes that just gets sweeter every time you watch it, doesn't it?

The level of ability needed to execute such a challenging skill just proves what an unbelievably technically strong player Thiago is.

Liverpool fans will be hoping for more of the same from their orchestrator in the 2022/2023 season as they bid to topple the might of Manchester City.
