Germany will wear the jersey of their women’s team for their UEFA Nations League tie with England in order to promote Euro 2022.Addidas have recently launched their new shirts for a number of countries competing at the major tournament this summer, and the German football team confirmed on Instagram that their kit will be debuted via the men’s national side. Thousands of German fans will therefore be able to see the brand new strip at the Allianz Arena as Hansi Flick’s team attempt to avenge their Euro 2020 defeat to England last year.

Which other teams are doing the same?

Aside from Germany, Belgium has announced they will do the same during their Nations League fixture against Poland on Wednesday.

Belgium’s decision to join the initiative is not just to shine light on Euro 2022, but also to mark the development of Belgian women’s football.

The side qualified for their first European competition back in 2017 and has gone from strength to strength since then –– currently sitting top of their World Cup qualifying group.

Meanwhile, Spain’s men will also wear the country’s brand new women’s shirt for at least one of their games in June.

Nick Craggs, the CEO of Adidas Football, explained the reason for doing so is as “a tribute to the great work their teammates are doing.”

When is Euro 2022?

Euro 2022 officially gets underway on July 6th, as hosts England take on Austria at Old Trafford.

The competition was initially scheduled to be held in 2021 but was forced to be rescheduled because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

This will be the 13th edition of the tournament overall and the second time it has featured 16 teams, since being expanded for the 2017 competition.

The Netherlands are the defending champions, while Northern Ireland will compete in a European competition for the first time.
