Najee Harris: Steelers running back has perfect response to constant weight questions

Steelers RB Najee Harris

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Najee Harris had the perfect response to speculation that has been going around surrounding his weight.

In an offseason that perhaps throws up more questions than answers for the Pittsburgh Steelers, given the quarterback battle that is taking place between Mitchell Trubisky and Kenny Pickett, there is one thing that they should be hoping to rely on, and that’s Najee Harris out of the backfield.

His first season in the NFL was a fairly productive one all things considered. Despite being a rookie and having to work behind an offensive line that was ranked 26th by PFF last season, he still managed to rank 4th in terms of overall rushing yards with 1,200, which turned into 7 touchdowns along the ground whilst also adding in 467 receiving yards and 3 more touchdowns through the air.

And he might be asked to carry a little bit more of the load this season, especially if the likes of Trubisky and Pickett struggle to get to grips with their new team.

Ready to carry the load

Judging by all the reports that are coming out, he appears to be getting himself in a pretty good shape to take on opposing defences this season, as he has put on a little bit of weight this past offseason, although just how much is still up for debate.

A recent tweet from Steelers reporter Mark Kaboly stated that Harris was coming into OTAs weighing 244lbs, which he saw as a warning to other teams in the NFL, whilst Dov Kleinman hinted that the weight gain might have been a pretty significant one:

Harris responded to those comments at the time, but he’s been made to respond to them once again.

Where do the Pittsburgh Steelers play?

What’s he said?

Speaking at media availability during minicamp, Harris opened up about the conversations that the media had been having about his weight issues, and he seemed to take a lot of it in his stride:

It’s good to see that he can have a laugh throughout all of this, especially over a subject that could get very personal, and so long as he’s putting in the work and getting the yards for the Steelers, it’s safe to say they won’t care how much he weighs.
