Sebastian Vettel intrigued to see how new cars handle Baku circuit

Sebastian Vettel says he cannot wait to see how the new cars tackle the Baku street circuit this weekend at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

The Aston Martin driver earned his first podium for the team last year as he picked his way through the late chaos and so he’ll naturally be thinking about trying to emulate that level of performance this time around.

Of course, that may prove difficult given the form of Red Bull, Ferrari and a few other teams in front of Aston at the moment, but the boys and girls in British Racing Green do seem to think their upgraded AMR22 is going to deliver an upturn in performance compared to the opening races of the season.

Speaking ahead of the Azerbaijan weekend, Seb had this to say:

“It’s great to be back at Baku. It has been one year since I took my first podium with Aston Martin at this track, so this is a special race for me.

“It will be interesting to see how the new cars adapt to the circuit, especially with the mix of fast and slow speeds around the straights and tight corners, but I am ready to get back out in Azerbaijan.”

Vettel obviously wants to be challenging for race victories but he knows that the journey Aston are on is not going to be an overnight one to success.

He’s seemed quite pleased with the improvements the team have made to their car of late, though, and he’ll be hoping that theme can continue this weekend as we head to the shores of the Caspian Sea.
