Dana White discusses Paddy Pimblett possibly headlining UFC event at Anfield

UFC president Dana White has played down Paddy Pimblett’s dream of the promotion heading to Anfield.

Over the course of the last few years we’ve seen a lot of newcomers make some noise in the UFC, but outside of Khamzat Chimaev, there aren’t many that have been quite as effective as Paddy Pimblett.

‘The Baddy’ may not be viewed as a future champion by everyone, but one thing the 27-year-old knows how to do better than most is market himself.

His lightweight campaign has gotten off to an electric start thus far with notable wins over Luigi Vendramini and Kazula Vargas. He secured a knockout success against the former at an empty UFC Apex and in the latter, he picked up his first UFC submission in front of a capacity crowd at the O2 Arena in London.

Still, while he may be 2-0, Pimblett is already aiming higher after noting on several occasions that he wants to see the UFC head back to Liverpool for a stadium show at Anfield.

This isn’t the first time a fighter has called for this with Darren Till previously suggesting the same thing, but up to this point, it hasn’t seemed particularly likely.

After this interview with Dana White, we’d say Scousers hoping to see it happen probably need to reconsider.

“Yeah, I’m not going outside. I’m definitely not going outside in f***ing England. Listen, if you’re going to go outside you go to Abu Dhabi where it’s hot as hell and absolutely not going to rain. But I don’t even like that. I don’t like having any outside factors that can affect the fight. Heat, wind, any of that stuff that can hurt the outcome of a fight, I don’t like.”

Paddy is back

For the second time in a matter of months, Paddy Pimblett will serve as one of the main attractions as the UFC heads back to the English capital on July 23.

This time around he’ll face what many believe to be a step up in competition as Jordan Leavitt attempts to cause an upset on enemy territory.

If Paddy can win, and do so convincingly, White may need to start thinking about some even bigger pay days for the Liverpudlian.
